Typically, people just don’t like to talk about their bowels. That’s one reason why suffering from irritable bowel syndrome is particularly difficult — people often suffer in silence, alone.

‘You feel unwell, but you don’t have anyone to talk to. It’s frustrating not being able to socialize or attend functions and nothing really helps you all the time,’ said Jeffery Roberts, the president and founder of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome Self Help and Support Group.

Each December 6th, Canadians remember the 14 young women who were killed at the École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989. Their deaths are marked by a National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.

On this day, government, organizations and individual Canadians pause to reflect on the work that remains to be done to prevent this violence.
